Mayoral committee member for area north, Suzette Little, met with Joe Slovo residents to hear first-hand about their concerns, during a roadshow in the area last month.
She outlined the City’s Organisational Development and Transformation Plan (ODTP) – launched last year to improve service delivery.
Ms Little said: “It is no longer business as usual at the City of Cape Town. Through the City’s ODTP, we are changing how we work to bring local government closer to our communities.
“Our area-based service delivery model allows for more focused attention – the main reason for our visit today, the first of many such engagement sessions with our residents.
“I am reaching out to all our stakeholders in the area to work with me. “
More than 850 residents attended the roadshow, of which 500 registered on the housing database.
Ms Little said area-based service delivery was not just about basic services like water, electricity, and sanitation, but included all City services, such as roads infrastructure, health, and sports and recreation.
“I was amazed at the high turnout of residents in this area. This is an indication that we are on the right path with the ODTP by taking services to our communities.
“We have a lot of work to do to improve the living conditions of our vulnerable residents and to redress the imbalances of the past,” she said.
