The building of West Riding Primary started in 2007. The school was to be ready by January 2008, but as it was still incomplete, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) decided to start the school in prefab classrooms on the site.
The building was initially referred to as Table View Primary 2 and later changed to Circle Road Primary by the WCED. After consulting with all parents, the school governing body decided upon the name “West Riding Primary”.
On January 21 2008, 55 pupils started at the school. Anthony Akerman, was the first principal and the rest of the staff included three teachers, a secretary and caretaker.
The school now has 968 pupils. The keys to the new school buildings were finally handed over to Mr Akerman on August 4 2009 and the pupils moved into their full furnished classrooms on September 1 of that year. They wore the official school uniform for the first time.
The current principal Inshara Hansraj was appointed in July 2012.
In 2015, the sports fields were completed much to the delight of pupils who could now play sport on grass.
