WPA board member found

Western Province Athletics Association board member Allen Barnes went missing on Saturday January 4. But police confirmed he's been found.

Edgemead resident Allen Barnes, who went missing two weeks ago, has been found, say police.

Provincial police spokesman Captain André Traut confirmed Mr Barnes was “no longer regarded as missing”, but would not say how or where he had been found. (“Western Province board member missing, January 8”).

Mr Barnes, 53, is a financial board member at the Western Province Athletics (WPA).

He disappeared on Saturday January 4.

He was meant to attend the Straggler’s Beachcomber race in Strandfontein on Saturday January 4.

According to the chairperson of the Cape Town Sport Council, Elton Davids, Mr Barnes never arrived at the race.

Mr Barnes was reported to have left his Edgemead home around 3.30am in his fiancée’s silver Toyota Corolla, which was later found parked at the Cape Town International Airport, fuelling speculation – unconfirmed by the police – that he had boarded a flight to Johannesburg.

Bothasig police had been investigating his disappearance and following up leads that he had been sighted at GrandWest casino on the morning of his disappearance.

When news broke that he had been found, Bothasig SAPS spokesman Warrant Officer Jacques Mostert referred Tabletalk to provincial SAPS.
