WW II veteran celebrates 100th birthday

A World War II veteran, William James van Schalkwyk, who served at El Alamein, Egypt, in the medical field, celebrated his 100th birthday at his Edgemead home on Friday August 20. Mr Van Schalkwyk and his wife Jean, 90, celebrated with family and friends and members of the community on their lawn in Osborne Square, where they have been living for the past 36 years. Mr Van Schalkwyk says his secret to longevity is eating as healthy as possible.
