The 67th edition of the Lipton Cup Challenge kicks off at the Royal Cape Yacht Club on Monday August 5.
The competition features sailing clubs from across the country, racing offshore of Table Bay Harbour and Granger Bay for the coveted domestic trophy.Â
This year, 10 boats with 80 crew are participating in the race, recognised as the national inter-club yachting event.
Mayoral committee member for transport, Felicity Purchase, said: “Many of the country’s top sailors who are competing internationally have flown to Cape Town to take part in this competition which always attracts SA’s best sailors.”
Race organisers say they are committed to environmental sustainability and will use the platform to raise awareness about clean oceans as well reducing the amount of plastic and litter in our oceans.
