Milnerton defeated second-placed Rondebosch by five wickets to put some daylight between them and the relegation in the Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) one-day Premier League.
Rondebosch were bowled out for 67 runs in 32.1 overs before Milnerton easily reached the score with five wickets to spare, scoring 71/5 in 23.4 overs.
Meanwhile, Victoria Cricket Club’s two wickets win against log leaders Durbanville moved them to ninth spot on the log.
Vics won the toss and elected to bowl first, at home, limiting Durbanville to 106 runs in 40.2 overs.
Rory Overmeyer, Robert van der Ross and Dean Oosterwyk troubled the Durbanville batting line up.
Overmeyer picked up three wickets for 19 runs in 10 overs, while Van der Ross got 3/15 in 7.2 overs and Oosterwyk picked up 2/13 in eight overs.
In their innings, Victoria reached 107/8 thanks to some good batting by Van der Ross, who scored 53 runs off 73 balls.
Vics are on 28 points after winning six out of their 15 games so far.
They are two points ahead of 10th placed Milnerton Cricket Club, who have a game in hand.
Last week, Vics were defeated by Ottoman Cricket Club by one-wicket. On Saturday, they will face seventh-placed Claremont Cricket Club at Chukker Road.
It has been a rollercoaster ride for Claremont.
Their loss to UWC by 44 runs at the weekend, comes after a famous 50-run win against Western Province Cricket Club (WPCC) a fortnight ago.
Third-placed Bellville Cricket Club continued their winning ways after destroying WPCC by 60 runs at home. WPCC won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Bellville scored 225/6 in 50 overs. Dewald Botha scored 81 undefeated runs, while his partner Uwe Birkenstock scored 59 runs before being stumped out.
Fourth-placed Cape Town Cricket Club thumped Langa by 234 runs at home. Cape Town Cricket Club scored 326/6 in 50 overs, while Langa were bowled out for 92 runs in 22 overs.
Clearly there is something troubling the Langa outfit as it has been 15 games without a win, and a minus-one point (-1) next to their name at the bottom of the log.
Langa will hope to turn the tables around when they visit WPCC at the weekend.
WPCC will be another tricky encounter for Langa as they will also go to the match at the back of a defeat and will be looking to get back to winning ways.
