Since breaking into the Super League B three years ago, Union-Milnerton (Uni-Mil) have been a dominant force but have always come up just short of gaining promotion to the top league.
This year, however, everything just fell into place as the team in the baby blue hoops lost only one match in a dream season that saw them being promoted with a game to go.
At the weekend they faced off against a languishing Macassar RFC in their final league match.
Although their promotion was already guaranteed, the Milnerton boys came at their opponents with fiery intent as they set their sights on lifting the SLB trophy too. Uni-Mil won 71-0.
Before the match, coach Isma-eel Dollie said his team would be making history that day and he was not wrong.
“We have a motto: See it, believe it, achieve it. We have won two league titles and one President’s Cup in a four-year period.
“Before the match against Macassar, I spoke about attitude, workrate, belief and the goals we set ourselves at the beginning of the season and that was to win the league,” said Dollie.
“There’s a nervous excitement about playing in the SLA as we know it’s going to be tough every week,” said Dollie.
