Milnerton police are investigating a culpable homicide after a 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed in what is believed to have been a hit-and-run with a taxi last week.
Douglas Cook, who works in Montague Gardens, said he had been at the scene shortly after the crash and had heard from witnesses that a taxi coming from the direction of Killarney going towards Maitland had hit the young biker and sped off without stopping.
“I saw the parents of the young man who was killed, but I could not bring myself to speak to them as they were distraught,” he said.
Milnerton police spokeswoman Captain Nopaya Madyibi said the crash happened on the corner of Montague Drive and Koeberg Road on Friday March 29, at 11.30am, but she said she had no further information and could not confirm whether the crash had been a hit-and-run.
Meanwhile, Table View police are warning motorists to be alert at the intersection of Blaauwberg and Potsdam roads after a thief reached through a car’s passenger window there on Tuesday March 26 and grabbed a cellphone.
Table View police spokeswomen Captain Adriana Chandler said: “Motorists are warned that when stationary at intersections, to make sure that doors are locked and windows are closed. Make sure that valuable items are not accessible by possible culprits and to leave adequate space between yourself and the vehicle in front of you.”
