Shannon Pengilly, 14, from Big Bay, will be competing in the South African International Ballet Competition (SAIBC) in the junior division.
The SAIBC, a hybrid event taking place online and at Artscape, starts on World Ballet Day on Tuesday October 19 and ends on Saturday October 23 with a closing gala performance.
It will see a record number of 180 entrants and a jury representing six continents.
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity of being able to take part in SAIBC 2021. It is the climax of the process of perseverance, training and hard work that allows me to express myself and come alive through dance,” says Shannon.
The competition and the gala performance can be viewed online with tickets costing R70 each. Theatre seats cost from R100 to R250 via the ArtOfLife app that is available for download in the App Store and Google Play Store.
