A new executive committee has been elected to represent the Phoenix Ratepayers and Community Forum (PRCF).
The election was officiated by Ward 4 PR councillor Ursula Barends at the PRCF’s first annual general meeting, held at the Joe Slovo community hall on Saturday October 24.
Around 60 people were in attendance. An interim committee has been in place for the past two months and the same committee was voted in as the official executive committee on Saturday.
PRCF chairwoman Linda Mqikela said it was “all hands on deck” to promote and protect the interests of Phoenix.
“We know what Phoenix was like before and we see what it is like now. We need to work with one another to make a difference,” said Ms Mqikela.
In the past few weeks, the PRCF has been cleaning Phoenix one phase at a time.
Phoenix consists of Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3. Ms Mqikela said it was great seeing the community coming out to support them and she also thanked the City of Cape Town for providing garbage bags.
“As we clean each street, we also note roads and drains in need of municipal service. We contact the municipality, and they have been good in assisting us so far,” she said.
Russel Capes was elected as an additional committee member. He said the forum had made great strides in a short time.
“We are striving to do things by the book, above board. Now that we have an official committee registered, we want to do a lot more for Phoenix, like get security companies in.
“We want to encourage the people to do more in the community like participate in the Saturday street clean-ups.”
