Cops catch four for Dunoon kidnapping

Police have arrested four suspects in Langa for allegedly kidnapping a 31-year-old man from a business in Dunoon and demanding a ransom from his family.

The SAPS Special Task Force and SAPS crime-intelligence officers and organised-crime investigators worked together on the case, according to provincial police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.

The man was abducted from a business in McClaren Drive on Tuesday May 5. The kidnappers fled in a Quantum taxi and later contacted the victim’s family, demanding an undisclosed amount of money to free him.

After following up on leads, police swooped on an address in Winnie Mandela Road, Langa, where they found the kidnapped man in a bedroom.

The four suspects, aged 22 to 26, would be charged with kidnapping and extortion, said Warrant Officer Swartbooi.

The police did not respond by deadline to requests for further information.
