A Table View man is seeking justice after someone smashed into his parked car and drove off in the middle of the night.
The hit-and-run happened in front of Johan Mostert’s home in Pentz Drive on Tuesday June 20.
“It was past 11pm, and I was asleep. I didn’t even hear the crash because I sleep at the back of the house. But it woke up my father and brother,” said Mr Mostert.
By the time they went out to investigate the sound, the motorist had driven away.
Mr Mostert’s car, a 2003 Fiat Uno Espresso, was hit from behind and the impact knocked the Uno into the wall of the house.
“Our neighbours said they saw a man sitting in his car and the lights were still on. Then the driver turned it off and drove away. They never saw the make of the car or who was driving the car,” he said.
Mr Mostert said the car was his only asset and was uninsured. It suffered extensive damage to the radiator, chassis and bonnet.
Mr Mostert said skid marks were still visible in the street two weeks after the incident, suggesting the other motorist had been speeding at the time of the crash.
“I’m not sure if the insurance will cover the wall’s damages and what the excess will be,” he said.
He has reported the incident to the police and urged anyone with information to come forward.
“The reality is it could have been a child that was knocked. Whoever that person is better contact me before he goes to jail.” Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler confirmed the incident had been reported.
