Malibongwe Drive is closed in both directions between Potsdam Road and Rivergate Drive due to protest action.
The protesters have set tyres alight in the roadway.
Incidents of stone throwing have also been reported. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.Â
This is the second time there’s a protest in that area in the last three days.
On Saturday June 29, Potsdam was closed between Malibongwe Drive and Killarney due to protest by Dunoon residents.
A truck was set alight.
Police were called in to control the situation.Â
No injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, mayoral committee member for human settlements, Malusi Booi has condemned the violent protest.
He said the City supported the right to protest, but condemned illegal and violent protests which put people’s lives at risk and caused damage to infrastructure and services.
“I am informed the protest was triggered by the execution of an interdict to prevent the illegal occupation of private land. The City had received a request from a private landowner to assist in the protection of his land against illegal occupation.
Dozens of incomplete and unoccupied structures which were in the process of being erected were demolished. The City complies at all times with the Prevention of Illegal Eviction From and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act,” he said.
