Police have arrested a man in Table View after he was allegedly found with abalone worth R1.5million.
According to Table View SAPS spokeswoman, Captain Adriana Chandler, police were tipped off that a man driving a white BMW on the R27 on Thursday October 3 was transporting abalone.
Officers who stopped the car in Porterfield Road shortly before 11am noticed large bags filled with abalone in the front and back seats.
The 33-year-old driver was arrested after failing to provide documents to transport the abalone, said Captain Chandler.
The 1 973 units of abalone were handed over to the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries agents, along with quantities of dried fish and lobster found later during a police search of the man’s home, she said.

Captain Chandler said police had been tipped off that the 36-year-old man sold drugs in Atlantis.
Officers who raided his home on Wednesday October 2 had found large amounts of tik, two scales and a large sum of cash, she said.
The man was arrested, along with a 19-year-old woman.
