The International Plastic Modellers Society (IPMS) South Africa and the Cape Scale Modellers Club held their national competition on Saturday. There were more than 150 entries from model clubs all over the country. The competition was followed on Sunday with an open day at the Killarney Raceway clubhouse for the public to admire the best of the best in scale plastic modelling such as planes, boats and vehicles all on display.Â

Louis Vosloo from Fish Hoek had on display one of his most prized possessions, a replica he made of a 1947 model AK-47. Mr Vosloo had a chance to meet the designer of the assault rifle, Mikhail Kalashnikov, when he visited South Africa to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his famous assault rifle.

Albert Kieser won first place for his bust of Tecumseh, a Native American Shawnee warrior and chief.
Tony Dills model of a dragon rider launching itself off a rocky outcrop took first place in the miscellaneous category and also came out tops in the Warhammer sub-category.
