Table View police arrested six men for being in possession of presumed stolen property after a “large quantity” of cables was found at a property in River Hamlet in Gie Road, on Saturday June 4. Constable Motlatsi Sehloho and Student Constable Nkele Serite found the cables when they went to investigate a noise complaint.
The officers asked the residents for a receipt of purchase for the cables, but they could not produce one.
They also had no good reason why they had the cables.
“There were six men at the house, and all six were informed that they are being placed under arrest for the possession of presumable stolen property. The officers also discovered equipment that could be used to cut and remove the cover of copper cables,” said Table View police spokeswoman, Lieutenant Adriana Chandler.
The men were due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Tuesday June 7.
