Police have arrested three men for being in possession of abalone.
Provincial police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel André Traut said officers pulled over two vehicles at a roadblock in De Grendel Road, Bothasig, on Thursday August 9. They searched the vehicles and found 37 bags of abalone.
Two men tried to rob a man at knifepoint at the MyCiTi stop in Gie Road, Parklands, on Thursday morning.
Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler said the men tried to mug the 34-year-old Parklands man as he was waiting for the bus. But their would-be victim outran them and called the police, who later arrested two suspects, aged 18 and 22, near the bus stop who matched descriptions given to them by the man.
When a policeman on foot patrol on Wednesday August 8 saw two men jumping over a wall in Table View, he gave chase and called for backup.
The officer caught one of the men, a 32-year-old linked to a burglary in Waterville Road, Sunningdale. The man had a bag with a stolen laptop inside.
Two more laptops and a computer monitor were found near the wall. The second suspect got away.
Police arrested two men in a Century City abalone bust on Friday.
The officers found abalone in a 34-year-old Hout Bay man’s BMW and more abalone in an Audi parked nearby, which led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Northern Cape man. The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has yet to establish the exact quantity and estimated value of the confiscated abalone.
Police retrieved the body of a man from the sea at Lagoon Beach on Tuesday afternoon last week.
Milnerton police spokeswoman Captain Nopaya Madyibi said an inquest docket had been opened and police were investigating.
