Table View police are investigating a culpable-homicide case after three people were killed and several others injured when a Sibanye bus, a Polo Vivo, and a delivery van collided on the N7, near Vissershok in Dunoon, on Thursday February 3.
The Polo drove into the back of the delivery van, which veered into the opposite lane and hit the bus, according to Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler.
The driver of the Polo was taken to hospital before police arrived on the scene, she said.
The crash happened just after 6am, said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring. Three men in the delivery van had died at the scene, and 30 bus passengers had been injured.
The bodies of the three men had been freed from the wreckage just after 8am, said Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Jermaine Carelse.
Golden Arrow spokeswoman Bronwen Dyke-Beyer said: “There was nothing that our driver could have done given the speed at which everything occurred.”
The bus driver had been treated for shock at the scene, while 16 of the passengers had been hospitalised, she said.
“Another 15 passengers were treated for minor injuries and shock at the scene,” she said.
