To mark our 30th anniversary and our commitment to making a difference in the communities we serve – Tabletalk is partnering with the Western Province Blood Transfusion Service (WPBTS) for a blood-donation drive at Bayside Mall this week.
WPBTS is an independent, not-for-profit, provincial health care organisation, which works tirelessly to ensure a safe and sustainable blood supply for the communities of the Western Cape.
WPBTS needs to collect 700 units of blood daily to meet the needs of patients in the Western Cape, and with less than 1.5% of the provincial population donating, it remains a constant challenge.
One unit of blood can potentially save three people’s lives, and a person can donate blood every 56 days.
Blood donation takes 20 to 30 minutes of your time every 56 days.
It requires you to be between the age of 16 and 65, weigh over 50kgs, be in good general health and lead a safe sexual lifestyle.
It does not cause you any bodily harm, since only 475ml of blood is taken, which is replaced within 24 hours.
Donors must remember to eat a substantial meal three to four hours before donating. For more information, visit www.wpblood.org.za
If you’d like to do your bit by donating blood, the Tabletalk blood donation drive will be at Bayside Mall on Thursday October 12, from 10am to 2pm.
