Police arrested two men suspected of robbing a Table View jewellery store after stopping this BMW on the M2 in Johannesburg.

Police have arrested two men in Johannesburg in connection with a jewellery-store robbery that happened in Table View on Sunday February 21

The suspects have been linked to several other robberies in the country, according to Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler .

Gauteng police spokeswoman, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said they had arrested the suspects on Tuesday February 23. One of the men had been on the run since 2014 after escaping police custody, she said.

The men had been in a BMW with a woman carrying a baby. One of the suspects had surrendered while the other had jumped out of the car and had fired a gun at police

“Police returned fire as they gave chase, and the suspect was struck and injured,” she said.

Police say they confiscated a gun and explosives from the car, and found two more guns and jewellery at one of the suspect’s homes.

The guns would be tested to see if they could be linked to other crimes, Brigadier Peters said.
