Bothasig policeman Warrant Officer Jacques Mostert, 60, will be retiring from the SAPS at the end of this month.
He joined the South African Railways Police in 1981 and became part of SAPS when the two forces became one in 1986. He was stationed at the Parow police station until 2014 when he moved to Bothasig.
“It was always a privilege to serve the police and the communities where I was stationed,” said Warrant Officer Mostert, adding that his colleagues, family and friends had helped to shape who is today.
He believes being a police officer is a calling, and serving communities is a blessing.
Bothasig acting station commander Captain Anel Botes praised Warrant Officer Mostert for his friendliness and warm personality.
“The way he interacts with schoolchildren on bullying and substance abuse is on a level that they will receive the message clearly.”
She thanked Warrant Officer Mostert for being a good friend and a loyal and committed colleague.
“He is most definitely not just a colleague but a part of a family of Bothasig SAPS. I will miss his words of encouragement, positive attitude and respect he has for everyone. We will truly miss him, and my prayer and wish to him is that he will have a long, happy and healthy retirement.”
Former Bothasig Residents’ Association chairman Graham Nel described Warrant Officer Mostert as a good man who is friendly, approachable and caring.
“Mossie is quick with a laugh and ready to crack a joke whenever he can. His serious side displayed an intimate knowledge of policing and the law,” said Mr Nel.
Bothasig community worker Toni Tresadern said Warrant Officer Mostert was very involved in the community and helped schools when they encountered problems with pupil behaviour.
