The City of Cape Town has closed all access to Milnerton Beach following a storm surge on Friday July 13.
An earlier storm (“Storm wreaks havoc,” Tabletalk, July 11) had wrecked two slipways and the latest one damaged sections of the promenade.
In a statement on Wednesday July 18, area north Mayco member Suzette Little said the closure of access to Milnerton Beach was an inconvenience, but it had done so to prioritise public safety.
“Given that repairs to the structural damage will take several months to complete, the City is investigating the establishment of a temporary access point to the beach. The City is cautiously optimistic that this will be established in the next 14 days,” she said.
The City has advised residents to rather use Lagoon Beach or Sunset Beach in the meantime.
