A retired Parklands couple woke at 4am on Monday January 8 to find two intruders in their bedroom.
The woman struggled with one of the men, who dropped a knife before he and his accomplice left the room, ransacking two other bedrooms as they fled the house.
The two male intruders had gained entry to the couple’s home by jumping over a gate on the side of the house and forcing a security gate and door open.
Neither the husband nor his wife was able to give a description of the men and could not confirm whether they had a vehicle or had been on foot.
Three men were arrested for the possession of abalone to the value of R243 500.
According to Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler, the three men were arrested at 2.30am on Sunday January 7 after members of the Operational Response Service received information that a vehicle suspected to be transporting abalone was travelling from Melkbosstrand towards Table View.
Five bags with shucked and unshucked abalone were found inside the vehicle and the suspects, aged 18, 31 and 33 were arrested and are being held at Table View police station until their court appearance.
A 27-year-old foreign national was arrested for attempted murder after he assaulted another man with an axe when they got into an argument.
Captain Chandler said police found the victim, who had suffered serious injuries, in a parking lot in Grey Avenue, Table View.
