There has a been a string of cellphone thefts in Table View, and the police are warning the public to take precautions so they don’t fall prey to this crime.
In one case, a man and his friend were at the traffic light in Potsdam Road near Dunoon, on Monday January 21, when a man reached through the open car window and snatched a phone before running off.
Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler urged motorists to stay alert at intersections.
“Make sure your windows are closed, doors locked and valuables are out of sight,” she said.
People should also not leave their phones unattended in a public place, such as a restaurant, mall or pub, she said.
* Police, with help from members of the public, arrested a 22-year-old man accused of robbing a taxi driver.
The man had been a passenger in the taxi before allegedly threatening the driver with a knife and taking cash, on Monday January 21, said Captain Chandler.
Bystanders detained the suspect until police came and took him to the police station where, according to Captain Chandler, he was positively linked to two burglaries that had taken place in Table View in Julylast year.
* Police arrested a 23-year-old robbery suspect in bushes near the West Coast Road last week.
He is accused of robbing a man, at knifepoint, of his cellphone, in Big Bay Boulevard, on Monday January 15, shortly after 7pm.
According to Captain Chandler, the victim gave a detailed description of the mugger to police, including details about facial scars.
