Potsdam Road is closed in both directions between Malibongwe and Killarney Road due to violent protest action in the Dunoon/Milnerton area.
The N7 is also closed in both directions between Plattekloof Road and Malibongwe Road. Â
Law enforcement officers and the police are keeping an eye on the situation.
The protest started earlier this week. It is believed to be a response to an operation by the City’s traffic service on minibus taxis.
The protesters allegedly started stoning vehicles and vandalising a MyCiTi station at the corner of Omuramba and Freedom Way.Â
Mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said: “Taxi drivers and owners believe that they should not be fined or arrested for offences and that the City should engage them first in discussions about these offences.”
Mr Smith said their proposal is unreasonable, saying the law applies to everyone. Â
At the moment, 71 traffic officers and 52 vehicles are assisting with traffic management in the affected areas.
The Metro Police Department’s Tactical Response Team has also been deployed and are assisting the police’s public order policing unit.
