Three armed men robbed the OK MiniMark in Summer Greens on Thursday March 24, at 10pm, after ordering staff and customers to lie on the floor.
While the supervisor was taken to the office to open the safe, a robber cleaned out the tills in the front of the store.
The men fled with an undisclosed amount of money without firing a shot, but minutes later, at 10.20pm, three men tried to force a motorist from his vehicle in School Street behind the store.
When the motorist resisted and drove off, one of the men shot him in his right shoulder before fleeing.
Milnerton police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Daphne O’Reilly said residents came to the motorist’s aid, and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
It was unknown at this stage if the men who tried to hijack the motorist were the same men who had robbed the store, said Warrant Officer O’Reilly.
One hour before the store robbery, a man with a gun hijacked a Summer Greens resident in front of his house.
“The suspect got into his vehicle and drove off and was followed by a blue Opel Kadett,” said Warrant Officer O’Reilly.
The stolen vehicle is a gold Mercedes W203 sedan with CA 188546 registration number.
* On Thursday March 24, at 1.30pm, 150 people taking part in an illegal march in Koeberg Road made their way towards the Milnerton police station, causing traffic to back up for 2km.
Marchers told SAPS and Metro police officers they were unhappy with their ward councillor.
“The group was informed in English and Xhosa that the march was illegal and that they are causing delays in the traffic flow. They were ordered to disperse and go back to Dunoon, but the group of people got angry and aggressive and attacked SAPS and Metro members by throwing stones,” said Warrant Officer O’Reilly.
Marchers had also pelted passing cars with stones and police had used rubber bullets to disperse them, she said.
Police arrested 17 people who were charged with public violence and detained until their court appearance yesterday, Tuesday March 29.
* Bothasig police arrested a man wanted for a Table View car theft and put him behind bars for Easter.
A member of the public alerted Warrant Officer Johan Kotze to the man’s whereabouts, said Bothasig police spokesman Warrant Officer Jacques Mostert. The man, who had a warrant out for his arrest in a car theft case opened by his girlfriend, was arrested at a Gerrit Street address.
