Wood Drive at the Sandown Road intersection has been closed until Friday September 4 for roadworks.
The closure is part of the Sandown Road Project and upgrade that is currently underway.Â
The project entails the construction of two additional vehicle lanes, pedestrian sidewalks, the installation of underground services and associated streetlights and traffic signals.Â
Mayoral committee member for transport, Felicity Purchase, said: “I understand that this is a busy intersection of the road. With the easing of the levels of the national lockdown, it is envisaged that most people will be returning to places of work, and more people will be affected. However, I want to appeal to motorists and other road users to please bear with us during this time. Roadworks always come with some level of inconvenience and cannot be avoided as we need to keep on upgrading our road network.”
The MyCiTi bus stop opposite the Sandown Retail Centre will be affected as well, but temporary bus stops are located along Sandown Road to the east and west of the Wood Drive intersection.
Alternative routes from Sandown Road to Wood Drive will be via Braselton Road, Whitehall Way or Koeberg Road.
